January 10th, 2008

MapMySearch is a very basic yet useful app that enables you to locate the servers hosting the top results of your search in Google. As an example, try searching for “stanford“, and you’ll get the gist of it. Pretty cool, isn’t it?

Finding out if user is browsing on an iPhone

December 29th, 2007

You might wonder how web sites (such as Wordpress blogs equipped with this plugin)  can detect that you’re browsing them on a iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s in fact very simple, the User-Agent of these devices is simply something like Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A538a Safari/419. You can usually detect that server-side and redirect to somewhere, or apply the correct template.

One possible cause to Ultraedit lag on startup

December 29th, 2007

For some time my Ultraedit was taking forever to start up. I just found out why. I previously had a network disk I was using, and a shared printer. When I left this environment I uninstalled the networked disk, but not the printer. This seemed to cause Ultraedit to hang up forever while trying to find the printer. If you have this problem too, just remember to delete the printer.
